The Tyler is traditionally the Lodge officer responsible for guarding the entrance to the Lodge from outside. The Tyler’s sword – and by extension the dagger – is historically associated with the protection of the Lodge and the safeguarding of its meetings. The “Blue Lodge” designation refers to Craft Freemasonry, commonly associated with the first three degrees. Blue is a prominent colour in Craft Lodge regalia, particularly within the UGLE tradition, where light blue is associated with Craft Masonry. The blue velvet and blue felt detail create a distinctive combination with the gold-colored hilt and pommel.
